New discoveries are pushing the limits of even the most basic ideas regarding underlying mechanisms, positioning the field at the threshold of advancing novel and efficacious treatments for diverse pain conditions. Given these rapid expansions, the potential impact of our work on society is inevitable and potentially profound. With influence, comes responsibility. Impact on society necessitates a more circumspect approach to how we communicate and expound our findings.
